The Duckie Has Been Dismissed

Rubber Duckie has been demoted to the bottom of the toy box. The latest favorite is a half deflated basketball (which makes it perfect for chewing) that was given to him by Zayna & Sheldon for Christmas. The half deflated soccer and football run a close second. Now all I have to do is dress him up in this cute basketball warm up suit my parents gave him and he will be soooo cute. Perhaps I'll post that photo tomorrow...always looking for entertainment around here.

Today Miles went on his first swing. He loved it. At first I was afraid to push him high, but I soon learned that the higher I pushed him, the more he laughed. So I pushed higher and higher and he laughed harder and harder. Lucky no one else was around, it might have looked dangerous. But he was LOVING it, so I didn't much mind.

Miles has been staying up longer these days, so my challenge lately has been to keep things exciting. It's been difficult to be "ON" all the time, but I am having fun and thats the most important thing. It's nice to have Dave come home at the end of every day to read books to Miles. And Miles is always so happy to see his dad after such a long day with his mom. He definatly knows who Dada and Mama are now. As soon as we finish our bath in the evening he looks at me and says Dada over and over again, pretty much until Dave gets home. It's super cute.
This is the two of them reading together. He now reads at least seven books before bed. I love to peek in at them reading but I almost always get caught....so most of the time I turn the monitor on in the kitchen and listen to them while I cook dinner.

GO FIGURE!

So the dictionary definition for Miles is:

MILES (Noun): A DANCE INVOLVING LITTLE TO NO CLOTHING

Gave me a good chuckle.

Banana Painting

Today I let Miles eat on his own.

It turned out to be more like finger painting with food, and looked a lot like barf mixed with snot. But Miles had a blast, except for the clean up portion of the event. I foolishly left the tray sit all day because I had no desire to clean it....not fun to clean once it had crustified over the course of 5 hours. All around...lesson learned. Next time I do this, he will not have clothes on, it will be right before bath time and Dave can clean the tray.

For Those About To ROCK....We Salute You!

When his nose is not full of crusty yellow and green snot, his chin free from the seemingly endless supply of drool, and his hair just right, Miles can be seen rocking out with his drum stix on just about any surface. Posted by Picasa

He Might Look Cute Now...but when he screems bloody murder at 4 am believe me....it's not so cute

Two new teeth arrived a month ago (the bottom two). There were no sleepless nights, no obscene amounts of drool, no daytime fussing, just a bit of infant Tylenol and problem solved. This month two new teeth are emerging (the top two). Oh the sleepless nights, the fiesta of drool, and the daytime fussing....well, it's a blessing. My heart goes out to the poor little guy. I can see the teeth, they have almost poked through, but for three days now Miles has been in nothing but pain. Infant Tylenol is working, but I can't feel good about myself dosing my baby every four hours so I wake up when he needs me, and cuddle him til he goes to sleep. Hope those teeth come through soon for everyone in the families sakes. Posted by Picasa

From Down Under to Down Blankets

We are back! I've collaged a few of our trip photos so that you could all get a peek at how amazing our time was, and see how beautiful Australia is. We met a lot of incredible people, went on a lot of amazing hikes (above and below the tree line), went on an insane boat ride (apparently I was the only one who thought so), saw some amazing animals and insects, participated in a lot of touristy stuff and loved it, swam in the ocean, and most importantly, got to show off Miles to family members that he had never met. It's hard to imagine that our time there is over.

Australia was stinking hot some days (our first day there was 45), surprisingly cold on others. The sun was so hot that it literally felt like it was frying your skin. Sunscreen is definitely the snowsuit of Australia (not sure which is worse). Miles loved the fact that there were minimal amounts of clothing involved on this trip. He did not however like sunscreen one bit....in fact with the reaction he gave upon application, you would think it was burning his skin off....Similar to how he acts when in his stroller. Marion and Darrin gave us their baby hiking pack and Miles LOVED it. He spent many hours in that pack hiking, sleeping and babbling about, in fact I still use it here in the middle of winter.

Miles experienced a lot of firsts in Australia. He met a lot of family for the first time. He went for his first swim, which initially didn't go over too well (especially in the ocean). By the time we left though, he was starting to kick around and enjoy it a lot more. He ate his first fist full of sand, which was promptly followed by puking, and then more fist fulls of sand (not much you can do about the sand eating...roughage). He climbed (on Dave's back) to his first mountain pass. He chucked his first really, really big fit (that was awesome). Seriously there were tones of firsts, but really there are everyday.

It was truly an unforgettable trip. Thank you to everyone in Australia for showing us such a truly wonderful time. We will be back again someday....When Miles can climb mountains on his own (credit due to Sadie and Noah who both went on some serious hikes with us).

Now that I'm back at home, the blogging will commence on a regular basis.....During nap time of course.
